I'll be signing a new children's book, "Mr. Dog's Christmas at the Hollow Tree Inn," by Albert Bigelow Paine, this coming Saturday, December 6 at Rare Device in Noe Valley. Come on down and pick up your own copy of the first edition, which has been meticulously reproduced using 5-color process, gold foil inlay and cloth-bound. Published independently by Betsy Cordes at That's So and designed by Cynthia Wigginton, the book is a modern interpretation of a classic Victorian-era tale penned by Mark Twain's biographer.
I had a lot of fun doing these illustrations, deciding to create them using crowquill pen and ink, drawing inspiration from Sir John Tenniel and Maurice Sendak. Included above are a few selections from within the book.
You can find out more about this project, which was born by one family's tradition of always reading this tale at their Christmas get togethers, by going to Mr. Dog's official website.
